Dancing with the Stars 24: Maksim Chmerkovskiy will require surgery
Speaking in anew interview with Access Hollywood after the recent show on Monday, Peta Murgatroyd revealed that her fiance Maks is going to need surgery after the injury he suffered in rehearsals. As a result of that, it does appear as though she’s going to be sidelined for multiple weeks. As a result of that, it does appear that we’re going to be seeing a whole lot more of Alan Bersten, the former So You Think You Can Dance competitor and troupe member who performed with Heather Morris on this past episode of the show. Maks will still be heavily involved most likely, but he’ll have to cheer his partner on from the sidelines.
If there is one reason to have hope for Maks’ future on this season, it’s the simple fact that he is paired with someone so dominant on the season. Heather is most likely not going anywhere for a little while, and that benefits his ability to take his time and come back. She’s a great dancer, and with that someone who’s going to continue to put up great scores. Plus, fans voting for the two based on Maks alone (hey, the pros have fans just like the contestants do) may keep voting for them with the knowledge that if they last long enough, he’ll get a chance to dance with her again.
In the end, the show must go on. Dancing with the Stars is a show that has seen many pro dancer injuries over the years — it’s something that Peta’s gone through in the past, and we’ve also seen it with Derek Hough when he was a part of the show. If anything, you should consider this a reminder that dance is a sport just as much as an art form, and wrong moves can sometimes have some harsh consequences. (Things are probably even crazier for Maks and Peta right now just because of the fact that the two also have a young child to care for.)
