Chicago Fire season 5 episode 17 sneak peek: A concrete mystery

Even before checking out the latest Chicago Fire season 5 episode 17 sneak peek, it was easy to be confident that there were some more dramatic stories coming up on the show. A big part of the reason for this is a function of timing (we’re getting close to the end of the season), and also the sort of stories that have been told on the show recently. We’re still trying to process the harrowing shootout that took place in the firehouse on this past episode!

Now, let’s get back to the sneak peek below (via TV Guide), where it’s pretty clear right away there are two different terrible things that have transpired.

First, you’ve got the issue of a giant mount of concrete striking a car window and nearly killing the driver. At first glance, you would assume that this was just some sort of freak accident. Then, you look at the size of said block of concrete, and you quickly realize that it’s possible that there was a far more sinister motive going on here. As for who would want to drop giant blocks of concrete on cars, that’s a question we cannot answer as of yet. Instead, what we can say is that someone is clearly doing it, and to more than one car given that the promo for this episode also features a certain degree of danger for both Brett and Dawson while they are out in the ambulance.

What’s the other issue? It’s simply (or not-so-simply) a matter of a missing child. While Severide looks after a boy in the back seat of the car at the scene of the accident, he makes it clear that his little sister is suddenly missing. This suggests that someone could be striking these cars, injuring or killing the drivers, and then kidnapping passengers. It’s hard to imagine anything more heroic than this.

Let’s hope that the firehouse finds out precisely what’s going on in the episode, and of course that everyone ends up being safe in the process.
