Supergirl season 2 spoilers: What Rhea means to Karamel relationship
The funny thing about Kara and Mon-El as a couple on this show right now is that they are victim to quite a few big pendulum swings. Things started out for the two of them in a position where they were able to get to know each other and develop feelings. However, that was ruined somewhat by the fact that Mon-El wasn’t exactly who he claimed to be. Regardless of whatever his motivation may have been (we do understand the desire to conceal his identity, given the fact that Daxam and Krypton are not exactly worlds that are completely friendly with each other), the reality still was that he lied to Kara about being a Prince.
From there, though, he was able to turn things around by proving his devotion to her in the musical crossover, an episode that proved itself to be more about love than any sort of battle between heroes and villains. It was hokey, but the sentiment and the message was there.
Well, here’s the unfortunate thing now for the Karamel relationship — they can’t just forget about Mon-El’s parents now, who clearly want him back on Daxam and not with someone from a rival world. This is something that Melissa Benoist teased recently in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“Isn’t that how things work that just when you get things settled, some wrench has to fall into the gears? … The Daxamites pose some problems. Rhea is not necessarily a sweet prospect for a mother-in-law, but it’s really fun to see the way these characters interact.”
Given that it’s certainly possible that Rhea ends up being the Big Bad for the remainder of the season, you have to think that she’s going to be holding firm and sticking around for a while. This is the sort of character who could threaten someone like Kara, mostly because there’s a personal connection there and it’s harder to just topple her physically.
