Major Crimes season 5 finale spoilers: Danger on high alert

When is the Major Crimes season 5 finale going to air? Think along the lines of Wednesday, April 12, and with the conclusion of a two-part arc entitled “Shockwave.” This is something that we’ve seen the TNT series has done more and more of over time, and it’s not too difficult to understand why they’d want to. After all, giving us these sort of multi-part finales is something that they’ve done a little bit of over the past year or so to change up the show.

Also, consider them in some way to be a reflection of the changing landscape at TNT. The network’s become a little more inundated over time with shows that are more serialized, and it’s less about the story-of-the-week cop shows like it was a few years ago. Major Crimes does still have that identity, but in the process it’s finding some ways to keep with the times.

The second part of “Shockwave” will be a reflection of that by picking up at the end of the first part, with Sharon Raydor frustrated and conflicted over the interference that has kept her in part from conducting the investigation that she wants. Eventually, she will have figured out a way to properly determine the identity of the bomber that she and the remainder of the team are hunting down. Per SpoilerTV, they will have that going into “Shockwave” part 2, but there are some other problems that they are going to need to contend with. Specifically, we’re talking here about the fact that they will have to find out where the bomber is planning to strike next.

TNT is promising that this could be a potentially “explosive” finale, and we have to figure that this would be a rather-gutsy way to end the season if they choose to go in this direction. Remember that this is a show that didn’t know until recently that it was renewed for a sixth season, and this finale may have been written before that. Therefore, it took some serious guts to commit to writing an ending that was potentially open-ended … in the event of course that this is what they decide to do.
