Grey’s Anatomy season 13: Where do Jackson and April go from here?

Jackson and April

Mrs. Carter: How much of a future does Japril have on Grey’s Anatomy season 13 coming out of tonight?

There is no denying that Thursday night’s new episode was the most important one for the couple for so many different reasons. First of all, Jackson had an opportunity to meet his father (Eric Roberts!) for the first time. As a result of that, he relied on his ex, she encouraged him, and they were able to get him through that. At the same time, the two managed to help a patient in Montana, and after accomplishing everything that they wanted to medically, they also then found a way to get their romantic relationship on the right track. They had sex for the first time in a long time, and you want to think that this is a hopeful sign that these two, despite everything that they’ve been through, could make things work.

Now that we’ve said that, Sarah Drew herself has made things pretty clear that there are once again no guarantees. Speaking to TVLine, the actress was quick to pass along the following message:

“There are so many different ways that it could go — confusion and anxiety about what it means for them… or just a deepening of the friendship and a return to best-friendship. It could lead to a rekindling of the marriage. There are so many different places for it to go that would make sense.”

At the moment, much of that could depend on how they establish both their working relationship and their home life. We’re hopeful things will stay romantic, largely because they have so many reasons to do so. Jackson finally has a huge weight off of his shoulders when it comes to his father, and maybe he will consider being a great parent as a key part of the equation for the person that he wants to be. He obviously can be a great father without bearing romantically intertwined with April, but this could push the two of them further in that direction.

Given that this is Grey’s Anatomy, we continue to think that Shonda Rhimes and the writers are going to take their sweet time resolving some of these stories. In some ways, you can argue that a relationship like the one with April and Jackson is never completely resolved.
