The Voice: Watch Josh Hoyer blind audition set to ‘Oh Girl’ now

Josh Hoyer blind audition -

At the end of Tuesday night’s The Voice, we had a Josh Hoyer blind audition set to “Oh Girl.” Anytime you close out a show, you’ve gotta feel pretty good about yourself … even if you don’t quite know it at the time you’re filming the audition. This is the spot where everyone will remember you, and it’s also the spot that they typically reserve for some of the better auditions.

With that, you have to think that Josh is feeling pretty darn good right now.

As for the performance itself, you gotta like that he picked a song from several decades ago that not every viewer out there may be familiar with. It shows that he knows his sound, and has a good feel for the sort of performer he wants to be and also the sort of performer that he knows that he is. Beyond all of that, this tune gave him an opportunity to show off some of his soulful leanings. He hit several good notes, and beyond that we do think that the coaches all seemed to appreciate his originality.

He had his choice of several different coaches to go with, and he chose … Blake Shelton? While Blake isn’t the guy we would directly associate with his sound, there is typically one non-country performer who makes it pretty far on his team. Even if Blake doesn’t necessarily consider his to be his type of music, there is a little bit of common ground with soul and country. Both genres do feature a lot of storytelling, and trying to channel your emotion into the lyrics in the best way possible.

Ultimately, we’re just going to see precisely what happens when we move into the Battle Rounds…

Want to see more of Josh’s music?

He’s got a band, and you can see some of his performances over at his official YouTube channel. As we’ve mentioned a few times over now, we do really like that the show is featuring people who are seasoned performers. They appreciate the audience that comes with the show, and they’ve experienced performing in front of smaller crowds. Sometimes, the young people who come out of nowhere never have that middle period where they struggle to find that crowd to support them.

What do you think about this performance, and was it a worthy way to close out tonight’s show? Be sure to share in the comments! (Photo: NBC.)
