Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders season 2 premiere: Kirstin Vangsness to appear
For those wondering, there is a Kirsten Vangsness – Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders season 2 surprise today! Not only is the new season premiering in just one week’s time (a surprise move following the cancellation of Doubt), but you’re getting a crossover right away.
What we have for you below are some of the first details from “Lost Souls,” which is the first episode and the one featuring Vangsness as Penelope Garcia. Unfortunately, we don’t have a whole lot of news beyond this in terms of how she is factoring into the series:
“Unit Chief Jack Garrett and his international response team are called to Tanzania when a 23-member church group disappears.”
The idea for the episode certainly sounds dramatic, and it is a reminder of just what this show does so well — find a way to capture crises for various people all over the world. The stakes for the premiere could not be higher, given that you have a lot of people in danger here.
If we were to speculate for a minute, we think that the presence of Garcia could have a thing or two with being someone capable of tracking and accumulating some information that Garrett and his team could use while out in the field. Personally, we hope that this is something that is sprinkled throughout the second season. The more that you can bring in some more connective tissue like this to the table, the better off that the show is probably going to be when you consider that crossovers are nice ways to boost the ratings for this show. Beyond Borders did well enough in the first season to score a renewal, but that does not guarantee that it’s going to get one this time around. We especially mean that when you think about some of the struggles the network is having at the moment filling their Wednesday timeslot after Criminal Minds this season with shows that draw significant numbers.

I tried to watch the first season of BB but it was just so bad. Badly written, poorly acted and outrageously jingoistic. No more for me. But they can keep Garcia – I am so over her on CM.
