Marvel’s The Inhumans casts Hell on Wheels star Anson Mount as Black Bolt
Great news for fans of The Inhumans — they’ve got a hell of a leading man to take on the iconic character of Black Bolt.
Marvel announced on Tuesday that Hell on Wheels star Anson Mount, a guy who was robbed of at least on a couple of occasions for Emmy consideration for the part of Cullen Bohannon, will play Black Bolt on the new ABC project coming this fall. He’s a significant comic-book character, and the official description of him is the “enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans, with a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city.” He’ll be front and center for the new project, which the network and the comic company are investing in heavily. The first two episodes will debut via IMAX theaters in addition to having broadcast airings. (Specific dates will probably be announced by the time we get around to network upfronts in May.)
This news follows up some other recent casting news regarding Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon being cast in the project, as well. While we don’t know the full cast just yet, everyone they are getting together right now gives us hope that this show will be one of the biggest ones of the fall. The thing that may make this difficult is that beyond these castings, we expect to hear pretty much nothing else about the project over the next few months. If there’s anything that we’ve come to learn about the Marvel universe right now, it’s that they love to store all of their major plot points in some secret safe surrounded by losers and massive Lash-from-Agents-of-SHIELD-sized guards.
We’ll see how the show is, but for now we’re probably more excited about this casting than any other that has come out for a fall series to date. Mount’s been routinely underrated as a performer, and this should give him a great chance to shine in front of a mainstream audience.
