The Voice: Cancer survivor Felicia Temple stuns, performs with Alicia Keys

The Voice -

Tonight’s premiere episode of The Voice on NBC of course brought out plenty of talent (doesn’t it always?), but the acts who close out the nights are the ones that tend to draw the most buzz. Closing the show tonight was Felicia Temple, and it feels clear that she did that and then some.

Felicia went out on stage with the song choice of “All I Could Do Was Cry,” a powerful song that showed off precisely what she could do as an artist on this show. She can emote, and more than that she can bring people in to what she is doing on the stage. This is something that you always do want to do if you are trying to convince people to turn around for you. (Just from the reaction on social media alone, she’s got a chance to make it FAR — so many people who close out the first show do.)

As for her decision, we saw through our research that Felicia had every reason in the world to go with Alicia Keys as a mentor. They perform similar music, and both have that artistic vibe to everything that they do. (We’ve also gotten the sense from our research that Felicia’s long been an admirer of her work.)

She ended up picking Alicia, and it’s pretty darn hard to see what she would’ve chosen anyone else in retrospect. Now, we just have to wait and see where they go into the next round of the competition. (That won’t be for a while, though.)

Aside from her voice, what also makes Felicia such a wonderful addition to the show this season is her story. As a cancer survivor, she brings that inspirational angle that encourages you to always follow your dreams. Meanwhile, she also has some musical ties through her family history to the legendary Sugar Hill Gang. That in itself makes it easy to root for her.
