Pearl Mackie’s Bill takes center stage in Doctor Who season 10 promo

Pearl -

With Doctor Who season 10 premiering on BBC One come Saturday, April 15, it only made sense for the network to release a new preview. We’ve got that for you below now, and this one revolves entirely around the presence of none other than new Companion Pearl Mackie.

The promo is told from the perspective of her character Bill, who is reacting to the crazy adventures that The Doctor leads her on. She has her reservations, but at the same time finds the journey to be a thrill. It’s succinct, it’s action-packed, and it’s fun.

Perhaps more than any of these things, though, the main purpose of this new promo may just be to remind everyone precisely of when the show is coming back, and also the presence of Mackie as the replacement for Jenna Coleman. Also, we think that there is a deliberate effort in here to promote season 10 as a Doctor Who for both newcomers and longtime fans alike. There may be a feeling that we’re ending an era and starting a new one with both Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat departing the series at the end of the season. This is a franchise that is always changing, and you have to be prepared for the changes. Otherwise, you run a risk of being left in a different timeline with a different Doctor. This new timeline is about re-focusing the series on what it’s been all about; through Bill, you will get to see the title character through the lens of someone who is still very new at this and discovering what it all means.

We are of course tremendously excited to have even more insight from Bill’s point of view as Doctor Who season 10 airs. Hopefully, there will be further chances to speak about it over the course of the coming days. One thing we do wish to share now is a reminder from former series star David Tennant that everything with the series will in fact be okay in the end. He’s confident in upcoming showrunner Chris Chibnall.
