The Voice Blind Audition: Anatalia Villaranda of American Idol, Shake It Up (video)

Monday night’s new episode of The Voice is coming up in a mere matter of days, and you don’t have to wait too much longer to see one of the first people trying out on the show!

If you look at the video below, you can see a performance from Anatalia Villaranda of Temecula, California, someone who may be familiar to some of you out there. She appeared on American Idol before that series came to a close, and she made it reasonably far into the middle rounds. (Remember, an American Idol alum in Sundance Head won this past season of the NBC show.) Beyond that, she’s got something in common with last season’s Darby Walker in that she’s appeared on a Disney Channel show! Specifically, Villaranda has appeared before on Shake It Up! during its run.

As for Anatalia’s Blind Audition itself, it’s a pretty incredible rendition of “Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars, not that this should really surprise you or anything given that she has already proved elsewhere that she’s talented. Probably the best thing about this beyond the vocals is the energy. She shows that she can tackle almost any note and has pretty much no fear getting out on stage. All four coaches turn around, and she’s both excited and gracious as a result. If we had to guess who would be the best coach for her, our sentiment right now is probably Gwen Stefani. The two have the most in common in terms of their energy, and she makes a really fantastic case to her. Gwen’s probably hungry, since in her previous seasons she’s yet to have someone win the title in the end.

One thing that could make Anatalia a threat this season if she makes it far enough is that she’s of Filipino heritage, and we’ve certainly seen on other singing shows Filipino performers get extremely support in the form of votes. Take a look at Jessica Sanchez and Thia Megia on American Idol, or 5th Impact during their recent run The X Factor. Filipino fans go hard!

(One last critique, and this one’s to NBC — you can’t call something a “leaked audition” if you’re the one doing the audition! You just released it. There’s a different.)
