Scarlett Johansson to host ‘Saturday Night Live’ for fifth time March 11; Lorde performing
NBC announced the news today that the frequent Marvel staple and “Ghost in the Shell” actress will be hosting her landmark fifth edition of the show. With that, she joins such other prolific female hosts as Candice Bergen, Drew Barrymore, and Tina Fey. It’s an honor for anyone to be invited back this many times, since it shows the love and appreciation the show has for you. (For those unaware, Alec Baldwin holds the hosting record, which is almost under-exaggerated given all the cameo appearances he’s made this year.)
Scarlett’s shown a knack for being brilliant in the past, and will bring a lot to the show once more here. She’s funny, spontaneous, and seems eager to be there every time. Given the proximity between her show date and “Ghost in the Shell,” don’t be shocked if this becomes a subject of conversation.
To go along with this news, the network also confirmed that Lorde is the musical guest for the aforementioned. Lorde was recently on the show in 2015, where she performed with “Disclosure.” She’s also been a subject of parody there in the past.
If you missed the news, it was also confirmed recently that Father John Misty will serve as the musical guest for the show hosted by Octavia Spencer on March 4. He’s not someone with a great deal of familiarity for many viewers, but this is part of the appeal of this show. “SNL” works hard to establish itself as a worthy destination for up-and-coming artists. It gives them more of a platform, and allows them to develop gratitude towards the show. Natch, they’ll want to come back down the road. It’s mutually beneficial!
