‘Legends of Tomorrow’ season 2: The ‘Land of the Lost’ tribute we didn’t expect

LegendsSure, we’ve all gotten a chance to see the crew on “Legends of Tomorrow” go several centuries into the past. Given that we’ve been to feudal Japan and also medieval times, we’ve been back even further than that.

However, we haven’t exactly spent much time rolling around with the dinosaurs — at least until the March 7 episode entitled “Land of the Lost” comes on the air. To date, the most time we’ve spent THAT far back — before the age of even humans — was when Ray Palmer was stuck back there at the start of the season, desperately clinging to survival amidst creatures several times his size — and that was without even wearing the Atom suit.

As for why the team is going there, it isn’t exactly because of the fact that they were put there of their own free will. Instead, Rip Hunter causes an accident that forces all of them to chill out in the era until things can be turned around — hopefully, there’ll still be some forward movement in the story this week, and we aren’t just looking at one of those episodes that is about getting stranded and not really moving anything forward at all.

Also within this episode, you’re going to get to see some further development in the relationship with Nick and Amaya, which really came out of nowhere on this past episode. This is the one thing about the show that they really have not been able to figure out just yet — relationships are tricky, and they’re especially tricky to make us care about them. It’s probably made even more challenging in this scenario because we are talking specifically about two characters who we didn’t know before the season started — therefore, that long-term investment in their stories just isn’t quite there.

In getting back to the title, we love that it’s “Land of the Lost” if for no other reason than it being a pretty great tribute to a series that was at one point really beloved by a number of different people.
