Ryan Muprhy: ‘American Horror Story’ season 7 to revolve around election

Roanoke -

The seventh season of “American Horror Story” is not going to be premiering on FX until a little bit later this year, but that’s not stopping us from getting some of the first insight on what the theme will be.

During an appearance on last night’s new episode of “Watch What Happens Live!,” prolific showrunner Ryan Murphy proclaimed that the upcoming season is going to revolve in part around the election that we just went through. Well, how’s THAT for a political statement? He wouldn’t confirm if the show was casting their own version of Donald Trump, but that absolutely seems as though it could be a thing.

Given the roster of people the franchise has, casting this season could be interesting. Does Sarah Paulson try to play Kellyanne Conway? Who is Evan Peters, given that he looks a little young to be any of the chief cabinet officials? Is Frances Conroy Hillary Clinton? Can Denis O’Hare play Vladimir Putin? There are so many questions that we’ve got! Clearly.

The biggest question to us at the moment, beyond if this was Murphy trolling us, is what the ratings could be for this show if it comes to fruition. No doubt, this is going to generate buzz — it was probably created intentionally with that in mind — but there’s a difference between having good buzz and then doing something that’s going to inspire people to watch. We’re already in the midst of election burnout; are we really so masochistic of a culture that we want to digest more of Donald Trump vs. Hillary Clinton after living in it for so long? It’s not about political affiliation here so much as it is trying to get our mind out of a crazy place.

Of course, we say this now, but in a few months we’re probably going to be clamoring for this once some of the daily emotional distress of the election plus social media starts to die down.

For the time being, let us know if you think that this is a good idea for a season in the comments! If you haven’t checked out our “American Horror Story” archive recently, we suggest doing so in order to get some other headlines. (Photo: FX.)
