‘The Crown’ season 2 adds Michael C. Hall as John F. Kennedy

The Crown -It’s funny how TV serendipity works. Just two days ago, we were talking about how Michael C. Hall’s signature series “Dexter” should return in the latest edition of our TV Revivals series; today, we’re discussing a very different sort of casting for the actor.

According to a new report from Deadline, Hall will play John F. Kenny on the second season of Netflix’s “The Crown,” marking easily his most high-profile television gig since the end of the Showtime drama. This is a chance to show more of a Presidential side, even though JFK (like Dexter Morgan) has his own fair share of secrets — granted, we’re pretty sure he’s lacking in the Dark Passenger department.

It’s pretty easy to figure out precisely why Hall would want to be a part of this show, given the sole fact that it won the Golden Globe for Drama Series and it’s likely to continue to be a titan in the awards shows for many weeks to come. You just have to remember for a moment that there are going to be few better opportunities to go out and act with roles as meaty as these, or as ripe with historical significance.

Meanwhile, Jodi Balfour of “Quarry” fame is also being cast as Jackie Kennedy. This is a role that absolutely has been popularized as of late by Natalie Portman’s recent performance in a major motion picture.

The second season of “The Crown” will continue to chronicle the reign of one Queen Elizabeth II, and it will also be the last reportedly to feature Claire Foy as the series star. One of the innovations that the series is doing here is jumping forward to different time periods every couple of seasons, which (as you would expect) is going to require new casts almost across the board. Of course, Hall’s role was tragically always meant to be short-lived due to Kennedy’s assassination.
