‘NCIS’ season 14, episode 14 review: Agent Gibbs works with ‘The Sherlocks’ to solve murder; Anthony DiNozzo’s dad returns

Senior -NCIS” viewers were rushed into the episode on Tuesday night as they watched the local pizza delivery guy find the victim in the first 90-seconds of the show. Dead and lying on the floor, the victim couldn’t pay for what the pizza she ordered. Kicking off an intriguing episode, there was a blast from the past during “NCIS” and it was delightful to watch the return of some interesting characters.

The team was assigned to the case involving a dead Petty Officer discovered by the pizza guy in a small town outside D.C. While Agent Gibbs was ready to give the case his full attention, his team was increased by several people as the members of “The Sherlocks,” a privately funded investigative team, were deputized by the local sheriff to help solve the murder. Perhaps more of a distraction than a help, it was The Sherlocks who kept surprising Agent Gibbs’ team.

The biggest surprise? Anthony DiNozzo’s dad is a the newest member of the club. A probationary member, he seems to be obsessing about more than just the case, as he is totally smitten by one of the members as he misses his son, Tony DiNozzo. Looking to start a new life, the story showcases DiNozzo Sr. in a new light as he finds his happiness. Mentioning the former NCIS agent and his life in France, the nugget of detail about the beloved character was welcomed by fans of the show.

While the team searches for the Petty Officer’s killer, the twists and turns definitely are not expected. The “NCIS” team even stumbles upon a theft ring by the security alarm installer, as his only alibi that he didn’t kill anyone was that he was stealing from another home. Another shocker was the announcement that Jimmy Palmer was actually a full member of “The Sherlocks” but failed to share with “NCIS” that he, like with DiNozzo, Sr., became a member of the privately funded investigative team and attended the meetings often.

Viewers watched the team inched closer to the killer only to realize that the grieving widower wasn’t just sad, he was relieved that his wife had died. With a little help from Anthony DiNozzo, Sr. the team realizes that the husband switched clothes at the airport and came home earlier than planned to kill his wife. Looking to move on with a new woman who had a baby on the way, the killing was more of a convenience for the husband as he found his soul mate and wanted to marry again.

The show had several hilarious quips from characters tonight as the dialog was top notch. Looking to find a way to solve the murder and work with “The Sherlocks” the best saying from Agent Gibbs on the show was “Keep your friends close and the crazies even closer.” That saying, along with the episode’s plot made the viewers excited to watch the show. We especially enjoyed the ending when Anthony DiNozzo Sr. was made a full member of the club and declared he would no longer take orders from anyone (except his new lady friend). Episode Grade: A.
