‘Timeless’ spoilers: Show boss highlights team’s future, talks romance questions
At the moment, there seems to be a rather interesting disconnect between what the producers of “Timeless” think about the Lucy / Wyatt relationship and what NBC the network is putting out there about it.
Over the weekend, we published a story highlighting a very specific video from NBC, one that certainly had no problem emphasizing these two characters as though they were going to be the next big TV romance. It was a little bizarre to say the least, given that for the run of the show, Wyatt’s principal mission outside of duty is figuring out a way to save his late wife. They did share that kiss, and there may have been some romantic tension there, but that was more for cover in the Bonnie & Clyde episode than anything else.
Now, let’s get to what the people who work on the show actually think … or at least executive producer Eric Kripke. Here’s what he said on the subject to TVLine: “I don’t think they’re going to be hooking up any time soon … [The kiss is] just another color in their relationship.” He also went on to say the following about how the emphasis, at the very least for him, is more on the entire team dynamic:
“The thing we’re most focused on in the short term is this idea that these three characters have really become a family, and that they’ll really fight for each other and protect each other, as much as they might drive each other nuts, and that the bonds between them are growing very strong.”
Would we be okay in the event that Lucy and Wyatt got together? Absolutely, but at the same time it would be hard to be all that upset at the concept of the two of them not being together, either. Just remember for a moment here that this is a show about fun, action, and the spirit of adventure. We don’t think of it in any way as one that needs romance to spice things up — it’s a little like a superhero show in that regard, and we do think that some of the superhero shows at the moment have gone a little bit into overdrive in this department.
