‘Arrested Development’ season 5 closer to happening; cross those fingers!

Arrested -Get your jean shorts and frozen bananas ready: “Arrested Development” is closer than ever to coming back onto Netflix with its fifth season.

While obviously nothing is 100% confirmed at the moment, show executive producer Brian Grazer offered up some signs of life to Deadline while at TCA this week, saying that they are close to striking a deal that will get the original cast of the show back on board, which we imagine had to be no easy feat given that some of them are big stars and have incredibly busy schedules:

“I think we found a way to create the compensation structure for all the actors and create a work matrix so they can still make movies and do other things and it will all integrate. So we are really close — I think within a couple of weeks at the most.”

Given the schedules of some of these participants, our clear assumption here is that we’re looking at a situation that is fairly similar in some ways to what we had back during the fourth season of the show, where we didn’t see the entire cast in every episode and we bounced around from one story to the next. While this wasn’t our favorite story of the entire series and we took way too long to get to a Gob episode, at the same time any “Arrested Development” is better than no “Arrested Development” at all. We’re still talking about a show that is blissfully entertaining and hilarious at the same time. Also, it holds a personal place in our heart as someone who fell in love with Newport Beach after seeing the city on the show.

Trust us: Whenever something is official here, we’re going to have it for you as soon as humanly possible. Given how much joy this show does consistently bring to us, there is absolutely no reason to be anything other than excited about the prospect of it coming back. For us, the main source of anxiety at present is wondering whether or not the powers that be will find a way to get everything together. We have been tantalized about developments before…
