‘World of Dance’ sets ‘Supergirl’ alum Jenna Dewan-Tatum as host

NBCWe already knew that NBC was setting up a potentially-big entry in the dance world with their “World of Dance” series; now, we also happen to know the person who will be responsible for bringing the show to you on a weekly basis.

NBC confirmed that Jenna Dewan-Tatum (“Supergirl,” “Witches of East End”) will be offering “her expertise, experience and unique point of view with both the dancers and the audience, giving viewers insight into technical elements of dance as they relate to the story of the competition.” In addition to hosting the show, she’s also going to serve as a sort of mentor, having done the “Step Up” film franchise and being very well-versed within dance herself.

We like that the choice of host for this dance competition (executive produced by Jennifer Lopez) is someone who does have a little bit of a dance background. However, at the same exact time our concern here is that she’s not someone we necessarily associate with being a host, and with that, you do run the risk. Hosting these shows is probably one of the most underrated skills out there. If you struggle at it or come across as unsympathetic, it makes the show super-tough to watch. We really think that only a few people have gotten it right over time — Ryan Seacrest, Tom Bergeron, and Cat Deeley are among the more notable names.

The judges for this show, which will look at a wide array of dancers competing for the “Best in the World” title and a monetary prize, are Derek Hough (“Dancing with the Stars“), Ne-Yo, and then also J. Lo herself. You are certainly getting an interesting mix of personalities for the show.

What do you think about Dewan-Tatum being selected? Do you think that she’s going to do a worthy job in her role as host? Share now with a comment, and head over here in the event you want to get some more news about Hough joining the show. (Photo: NBC.)
