Ratings: ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ beats NBC – Fox specials, but down versus most-recent broadcast

Rockin Eve -

The following bit of news is probably going to sound rather familiar: ABC has itself a winner with “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”

During the most pivotal time of the show — otherwise known as 11:30 p.m. until 1:15 a.m. in the morning — TVbythenumbers reports that the special, hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy, ended up posting a 6.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That is down slightly from a year ago, but still more than double any of the other competition that is out there on network TV. Apparently, Mariah Carey’s disaster near the stroke of midnight didn’t really hurt the show at all; heck, maybe it helped to get people on the West Coast to watch after they heard about it from some of their friends. We would’ve thought it would have been down more given that the holiday just so happened to fall this year on a Saturday.

Meanwhile, over on NBC “New Year’s Eve” with Carson Daly actually posted some of its best ratings in years in a 3.3 rating, which we’d attribute mostly to a great roster of performers / NBC talent including Blake Shelton, Alicia Keys, and “Shades of Blue” star Jennifer Lopez. “Pitbull’s New Year’s Revolution” over on Fox generated a solid 2.4 rating, down versus the most recent show but still something that we feel like they are probably still for the most part rather happy with.

Tonight, there will be a few new episodes of various programs, but for the most part, tomorrow will be when we start watching ratings closely again. After all, everything will be relatively close to back to normal at that time.
