‘Doctor Who’ season 10: Premiere date hopes for Peter Capaldi series

Doctor Who -Today, the BBC is giving us a chance to see something that is in many ways a full year in the making: The annual “Doctor Who” Christmas Special! It’s a chance to have some fun with some favorite characters, and also reminisce about a show we’ve sorely missed for much of the past twelve months.

Now, we can start to look ahead a little bit further to the next main event, and that is the airing of the upcoming tenth season.

Premiere date – There is nothing official as of yet, but for now spring appears to be the reasonable guess. Odds are, we’ll have the entire run give to us at one time, rather than dividing it up into several individual components. There is a lot to look forward to from the latest batch of episodes, and hopefully we’ll get something closer to an official premiere date over the coming months.

What to expect – The most notable thing is of course the hiring of Pearl Mackie as the new companion, and what we know about her right now begins with the fact that her name is Bill, and that she’s meant to be a very different sort of companion than any that we’ve seen before over the course of the series’ run. One of the big appeals of her is that she offers a very different energy than anyone we’ve seen before on the show, and may question The Doctor and bring the show back to its roots. Think of her as more of a window into the world around her.

Another thing of note – Season 10 will be the final year for Steven Moffat as showrunner. Beyond that, Chris Chibnall is going to take over the position moving into season 11. There could be other changes, but we feel as though Peter Capaldi is going to stay on for at least one more season based on his comments.
