‘The Walking Dead’ season 7, episode 7: Could Carl actually die?

Carl -

Going into Sunday night’s new episode of “The Walking Dead,” we’re probably more worried about a single character than we’ve been since the premiere with Glenn. Carl Grimes is in deep doo-doo, to put it in the most juvenile way possible. The guy is heading to the Sanctuary as a stowaway, desperate to have his voice heard — and his voice is telling him that killing Negan seems to be a pretty cool idea that he should really consider getting behind.

As for whether or not this will actually happen, for the time being we’re voting “doubtful.” Given how much time AMC spent hyping up the appearance of one Jeffrey Dean Morgan on the show this season, it’d feel almost like they were stuffing us in the nearest locker to kill off their primary villain seven episodes into the season. This guy is sticking around for a little while.

Carl, meanwhile, is a character worth worrying about for several different reasons, starting with the fact that for whatever reason, he is actually traveling to the Sanctuary alone. Seriously. It’s hard to tell how he thinks that this is even remotely a good idea since it feels like he’s raising his hand and proclaiming “I’d really like to die today.” We know that Negan has no problems with killing, and that he knows that this is another way to completely destroy Rick Grimes emotionally. You can throw all of the rumors out there that you want about Chandler Riggs leaving the show to attend college, but it seems wrong to consider that much of anything when it could just be the internet being the internet and puffing out its chest. That’s something that it’s been known to do here and there.

Here’s what we know for sure about Carl entering the episode: He’s going to be showing off what’s under the eyepatch (probably not by choice), and the title for the episode in “Sing Me a Song” may very well be a reference to something that happens to him from the comics.
