‘The Flash’ season 3, episode 9 (winter finale) preview: The quest to stop Savitar, Alchemy

Alchemy -Tonight, “The Flash” is bringing you what is technically the second part of their super-ambitious four-part crossover event, though we’re sure that to some people out there, it’s going to feel a little bit more like the first part given that we barely saw any crossover at all on “Supergirl” Monday.

We’re not going to focus in this article much at all on tomorrow’s “Arrow” episode, which will both continue the crossover and also serve as the 100th installment of the series. Instead, let’s look at “The Present,” which is next week’s winter finale for “The Flash” that will bring into the forefront more of the issues that Barry Allen is battling at present, whether it be someone like Doctor Alchemy to how he can defeat Savitar, who really to date has only shown up to him and cannot be properly seen by anyone other than speedsters.

Synopsis – “With Alchemy and Savitar still looming threats, Barry (Grant Gustin) is unable to focus on the Christmas holiday, and especially his relationship with Iris (Candice Patton). Determined to stop Savitar, Barry goes to Earth-3 to get advice from Jay Garrick (guest star John Wesley Shipp). Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) wants to help Barry fight Savitar and reveals that he’s been training with H.R. (Tom Cavanagh), which doesn’t go over well with Barry. As Cisco (Carlos Valdes) faces his first Christmas without his brother Dante (guest star Nicholas Gonzalez), old wounds are reopened.”

Given that this is a Christmas episode, we certainly do imagine that there are going to be many happy moments from start to finish in here. However, at the same exact time we get the sense that there are going to be a number of bittersweet ones as well. These are characters who still are going to have to get used to a new reality, one that for Cisco does not include his brother, just as for Caitlin, it includes her having superpowers that can cause her to teeter out of control.
