Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2016: Tony Bennett performs — saved by Miss Piggy?
Many often joke about the vast majority of performers who lip-sync during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but we understand why performers choose to go this route given that it’s almost impossible to do a performance out there that will sound good because of the conditions. It’s an incredible challenge, and with that, the best thing that many of these people can do is simply turn in an appearance.
When you’re Tony Bennett and you’re celebrating your 90th birthday, let’s be real: You can’t be bothered with such things as worrying about album sales or having a performance that’s a little wonky. He’s already got a resume that goes for miles.
Bennett actually sung live for the parade courtesy of a duet with Miss Piggy, and you could tell that he was performing live mostly thanks to one simple fact: Him messing up and coming in at the wrong time a couple of times. Luckily, he’s a pro and correct himself pretty quickly, and it didn’t seem to phase Miss Piggy one bit.
Following Bennett’s appearance we then had a chance to see Santa, and all of this reminded us of how grateful we should be to have someone like Bennett still out there and wanting to make music. Just remember for a minute here that it would’ve been rather easy for him to just stay at home. He doesn’t need to do anything like this at this stage of his career, but we’re happy that he did.
The internet is making a pretty big deal out of the moment below, where it seems like Miss Piggy catches Bennett from falling. If that is the case, it’s amazing and one of the strangest things we’ve ever seen. Yet, at the same time we’re pretty sure someone else would’ve been there to help him if there was a real problem. Still, this sight is amazing.
For those wondering, there will be a birthday special for Bennett airing next month, so hopefully we’ll get a chance to learn in the coming weeks precisely who is going to be performing on that particular occasion.
