‘The X Factor’ UK: Honey G did not say n-word during ‘Jump’ performance
Once again tonight on “The X Factor” tonight, there was some significant controversy regarding a Honey G performance; however, this one may not be as bad as you would first thing.
During her performance of “Jump” from Kris Kross, there was a moment where it sounded as though the rapper said a certain n-word that would get her in all sorts of hot water. After all, she’s already been accused by some of appropriating black culture with some of her performances, a charge that she has denied.
While it may be easy to attack Honey G, we’re here to tell you that she did not use an offensive word in the performance. If she did, for one the show would’ve issued a prompt apology. What happened was that she performed a lyric that when spoken quickly, made it sound like she was saying something offensive. Here is what she actually said:
“I’ll make ya rump rump wiggle and shake your rump
‘Cause I’ll be kicking the flavor that makes you wanna Jump”
If nothing else, Honey G may just need to work on her enunciation. The way that she said “kicking the flavor” is what caused a little bit of confusion. We’ve went back and listened to it a few times over, and we understand where some of the reactions are coming from; however, we’ve checked over the lyrics and confirmed multiple times over that she did not actually say an offensive term.
As for whether or not you consider Honey G in the competition still as offensive, that’s an entirely different subject up for debate. We do think that this was one of her better performances, but that may not be saying too much given the overall body of work so far this season.
