‘Chicago Fire’ season 5 on set: Kara Killmer, Amy Morton chime in on Brett, Mouch’s romance novel

One of the stranger but more-entertaining stories that we’ve seen unfold so far this season on “Chicago Fire” is the collaboration between Mouch and Brett as they work together on a firefighter-related romance novel. It came almost out of left field, but the more we’ve gotten into it, the more we’ve found it fun as their writing style is a reflection of not only their personalities, but also what they’re going through — hence Brett suddenly wanting to throw in a character who sounded on paper a little bit like Antonio.

So what did Kara Killmer first think when she saw the foundation of this story on paper? That’s something that she told us about when CarterMatt visited the “Chicago Fire” set for One Chicago Day a little earlier this month:

“At first when I read that in the first script, I thought they were kidding. I thought they were making fun of me a little bit. It is a really funny, slightly disturbing pairing of the two of them to write a romance novel. I think it’s really fun, and I’m fortunate to bounce around with different characters. Brett and Mouch, writing a romance book, who knows how that’ll turn out? For however long they let us do that, hopefully it’s a lot of laughs. We’ll see how Trudy takes it on [‘Chicago PD’].

It’s perfect that Killmer mentions Trudy Platt in that response, given that we also spoke to “Chicago PD’s” own Amy Morton (who is appearing in Tuesday night’s new episode) on the very same subject. She was of course very cryptic on the subject, but she made it clear that Platt’s reaction may not be what you would think:

“She does [have a reaction] to it. You’ll be surprised what that reaction is.”

Bonus teaser – Morton also teased that we will get a chance to see Platt and Mouch’s house at some point soon. Whether or not that is in tonight’s episode remains to be seen.
