‘Empire’ season 3, episode 4 preview: Are Lucious, Andre working together now?

Throughout the first few episodes of “Empire” season 3, the primary order of business for the most part was resetting the stage, elimination Rhonda from the equation, and then bringing in new layers of trauma for the Lyon family.

Well, in true “Empire” fashion things are about to get so much worse — especially when it comes to Andre.

Synopsis – “Things heat up between Cookie and Angelo (guest star Taye Diggs), so Lucious finally recognizes Angelo as a formidable rival and prepares to take him on. Meanwhile, Jamal is finally able to face Freda Gatz, a big first step on his journey to recovery. Also, Anika goes back to work at Empire and instantly causes turmoil, while Hakeem starts falling for Nessa, even though she might be into a different Lyon.”

Strangely, there’s no mention of Andre in here, though for all Jussie Smollett fans it’s certainly a good thing that he’s going to get this level of emotionally-raw material. Clearly, the guy’s got some serious stuff he needs to work through.

Promo – You get a small slice of the Lucious – Angelo conflict in here, but for the most part, we think that the main order of business here is giving us Andre and Lucious seemingly trying to run things together. In the wake of what happened with Rhonda, and with his history of mental illness, trying to get his father’s approval in this was is not the way to go about things (especially after what we saw tonight between the two of them). It’s only going to bring Andre further heartache in the end.
