‘Empire’ season 3, episode 3 preview: Mariah Carey takes center stage

The third season of “Empire” has not necessarily been building towards an appearance from Mariah Carey per se, but it has remained front of mind for many people out there. This is what happens, after all, when you first announce a guest spot many months before it actually comes on the air. (Heck, it’s been almost a year.)

You will see Mariah make an appearance on next week’s “What Remains is Bestial,” and the attached synopsis below gives you a little more insight into what is coming up:

“Cookie calls in a favor with mega-superstar Kitty (guest star Mariah Carey) to record a new song with Jamal, hoping he will overcome his inability to perform. Meanwhile, Andre runs into some trouble and things don’t go as planned. Cookie and Lucious are at odds, Hakeem and Gram (guest star Romeo Miller) fight for Tiana’s attention, and things heat up between Cookie and Angelo Dubois (guest star Taye Diggs).”

Let’s hope that Carey’s appearance now amounts to something more than a glorified cameo from a music superstar, given that this is the only way in which it has been promoted to date and you never quite know when it comes to this show. This used to be a larger problem for the show, but we do think they’ve gone slightly away from this over time.

Then again, this is MARIAH CAREY. If you are able to get her to appear on your show, odds are that you’ll use her for anything that she wants to do regardless of what it is.
