‘Chicago Med’ season 2 spoilers: Maggie’s sister arrives — what happens next?

Chicago MedChicago Med” this coming season has a variety of different challenges ahead, and one of the biggest ones will be balancing out some of the familiar faces and also some new characters. You don’t want to short-change your longtime regulars, but when you have new people entering the mix, you want to make sure you do so in a way that does them justice and has people interested in what they have going on.

One way in which we could see that is with the September 29 episode entitled “Natural History,” which just so happens to be the second one this season. The synopsis below makes it clear that we’re meeting more of Maggie’s family, which is great in that it allows us a larger perspective on her while at the same time also showing us some other people who could be important down the round depending on how things progress:

“Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and fourth-year medical student Jeff Clarke (guest star Jeff Hephner) are forced to figure out a mystery illness when an Indonesian man who doesn’t speak English arrives at the hospital in dire straights. Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) takes Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) to her family reunion where he meets her sibling Denise (guest star Alexandra Grey) and uncovers deep-rooted family secrets. Meanwhile, Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) takes on a complicated heart surgery without consulting Dr. Latham (guest star Ato Essandoh) and Dr. Reese (Rachel DiPillo) and Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) encounter a woman experiencing an unusual pregnancy.”

Many of the other stories here sound at the moment like the patient-of-the-week variety, but who knows? There could be much more to it than we’re seeing right now.
