‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8 premiere: What should happen

Salvatore -

The eighth season of “The Vampire Diaries” will be premiering on The CW a little later this fall, and it’s much more significant than most. How else can you describe staring in the face the final season? The pressure is now on to deliver something that pays tribute to the entire journey of the show, and also something that in a vacuum feels different. It needs to be an evolution that still contains the original’s soul, and it needs to build towards a final end point.

What we’re trying to say here is that we certain feel like Julie Plec and the writers are in a super-tough spot, since there are so many different things that they have to juggle entering the start of the season. So what should happen, in particular in the very first episode? We’re going to do our part to chart that out now.

Where we left off – Damon and Enzo emerged from the vault, but they were hardly their former selves and are set up in a position to be now some variation of Big Bads. Meanwhile, Caroline and amicably seem to be done (amicably so) as romantic partners, Matt seems dome with Mystic Falls for good, and Bonnie finds herself in an interesting position, seemingly without many of the touchstones that she had identified herself with over time.

Oh, and Damon got to hear Elena’s voice thanks to Nina Dobrev making a brief return (at least via recording studio).

What should happen – The premiere episode will hopefully shed more light into what happened to turn Damon and Enzo into crazy killers, and also if there is a way that they can emerge from that and find their former selves once more. Also, the writers need to find a way to involve Matt once more, even if it does involve forcing his hand in some way, and you should also have some sequences of Caroline and Stefan working together. A relationship isn’t rebuilt in a day, but if they are endgame, we want to see things slowly start to head back in that direction.
