‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: Prepare for Dolph Lundgren awesomeness
The fifth season of “Arrow” will be premiering on The CW come October, and while we are excited to see much of Oliver’s new training regimen with his vigiantes in the present, we are probably more excited for the past than we’ve ever been to date.
Why? Let’s just say that it ties back to Dolph Lundgren of “Rocky IV” appearing in those particular flashbacks. He’s one of the most noteworthy action icons to appear on the show, and while we don’t know precisely how the writers will use him, it also does not look like they are going to pull him especially far away from his roots. Speaking (per TVLine) on the subject of using Lundgren, executive producer Wendy Mericle passed along the following hint as to what we can expect here:
“[Dolph’s character] is a government strongman … He is scary and formidable — and he had a role in some stuff with Taiana’s family last season. He’s a bit of a badass.”
Ultimately, we don’t care who specifically Lundgren plays so long as Stephen Amell and him get some significant screen time together and he proves to be a real, viable threat. We don’t want him to be someone who pops up for an episode or two, scares us, and then goes away for the remainder of the season. While we don’t expect him to be around as much as Manu Bennett was in flashbacks, a Slade Wilson sort of presence would be nice. (We should note that we do miss Slade very much on this show.)
