‘Zoo’ season 2, episode 9 review: Abe drops a bomb on Jackson; a saber-toothed cat mystery
On Tuesday night’s new episode of “Zoo,” it’s fair to say that Mitch found himself a little bit of confusion. Right when he was starting to get to the bottom of the triple-helix mystery, he learned that the last animal he needed was one that has not been around since the Ice Age.
So how in the world was a saber-toothed cat (not tiger) involved? Well, let’s just say that it could have been as a result of synthetic experiments done a hundred years ago, and it was something that allowed Mitch and company to pay a visit to his father, someone who has spent much of his life trying to track down the mythical. Oh, and he also married Mitch’s girlfriend, which really helps to make it clear precisely what sort of person he is. Yet, somewhere within him the guy loves his son, and as interesting as all of this was, the Mitch / Allison scene in the end is probably engraved in everyone’s brain as the total “what the…” sequence of the week.
Despite everything that we saw over the course of the episode, the reveal at the end ultimately took the cake as the biggest jaw-dropper of the secret. Abe had already revealed earlier in the episode that he had a history with Oz and Jackson’s mother, and the full extent of it came out alter during a conversation, one where he admitted that he injected Jackson’s mom. He feels in part responsible for the chaos, and that guilt has caused him in ways to seek redemption.
Just in case this wasn’t enough, Abe also told Jackson his father was still alive, and working with Davies. Suffice it to say, this did not go over all too well. Jackson lost it, attacked Abe, and then eventually escaped when he realized what the team would have to do to stop him.
On an entertainment level, this was a pretty glorious hour, even if Mitch’s dad and that whole story was kind of out there. Most importantly, we are moving this story forward in a way that could bring us to a crazy finale. Grade: B.
