‘Girl Meets World’ season 3, episode 10 review: Was the Katy – Shawn wedding worthwhile?
Remember how the previews for Friday night’s new episode of “Girl Meets World” hinted that there could be some drama around the wedding of Shawn Hunter and Katy Hart? Well, not much of that was present in the episode itself.
For the most part, we’d consider “Girl Meets I Do” a sweet and predictable celebration that should appeal to “Boy Meets World” and “Girl Meets World” fans alike. Sure, there were some clear signs that this was painted for a Disney Channel audience; when your primary conflict is Shawn worrying that he will be a good husband and vice-versa, you’ve got it made in the shade. Maya interrupting the vows during the wedding itself was mostly a way to offer Shawn further support.
The best part of the episode to us was getting to see William Daniels as Mr. Feeny officiate the big affair. His lines were limited, but he really chewed the scenery and won us over with every single one of them. He was precisely what any Feeny fan would have wanted in terms of the ceremony, and that was hilarious and insightful. The Cory – Shawn scenes were touching in their own right, mostly as a reminder of where they’ve come from and where they still have to go.
While we’d consider “Girl Meets I Do” itself a treat, we do think that the sitcom convention (and possibly the show’s budget) made one part of this kind of strange: Katy and Shawn’s wedding was attended almost entirely by members of the Matthews family. Don’t these two have any other friends or family who would have liked to be there? We almost would’ve just brought in some extras to just fill out the space a little more.
That is ultimately a minor complaint in what is probably a nice culmination episode for the Shawn character; now, we get a better chance to see what the future holds. Grade: B+.
