‘Outlander’ season 2, episode 10 preview: Claire and Jamie prepare for war

Claire -

Tonight on “Outlander,” the Starz series lifted the veil on some wartime preparations for Jamie and the rest of his army in Scotland; in the process, we also saw just how much Claire Fraser was struggling from the aftereffects of being Claire Randall during wartime efforts during World War II. We wish that some of the PTSD would be going away in the near future, but that unfortunately does not appear to be the case.

Instead, next week’s new episode could be more violent than anything that we have seen to date, given that Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan’s characters are going to be front and center for more warfare than anything we’ve seen to date. In the process, the synopsis below hints that we could end up losing many:

“Trusting in Claire’s knowledge of ‘history,’ Jamie leads the Jacobite army into a critical battle with British opposition near the town of Preston.  Meanwhile, Claire attends to the dead and dying, a reminder of the truest costs of war.”

While it does certainly seem as though the British have the upper hand here when it comes to the number of men and their resources, at the same exact time we’ve seen already that Jamie and company have an edge when it comes to logistics, the element of surprise, and overall craftiness. The move with William Grey, horrific as it was to watch, paid some dividends and set the stage for what will be the central battle during at least part of this episode. As for what will happen … well, there are plenty of people out there who are watching and have no knowledge of what happens in the books.
