‘Game of Thrones’ season 6, episode 6: Tobias Menzies on Edmure Tully surprise

LogoHow about this for a big surprise on Monday night’s new episode of “Game of Thrones“? We knew that there was a good chance that we would get some returning characters this season, but this installment really gave us a whole flourish of returns. Not only was Benjen Stark back, but we also had the return of a huge villain in Walder Frey and also another appearance from Edmure Tully, who has been kept prisoner for all of this time in the aftermath of the Red Wedding.

What makes the Tully character even more interesting is the actor who plays him in Tobias Menzies. Since appearing on the HBO hit he has gone on to be a huge player on “Outlander,” but he still found the time to make a small appearance in “Blood of My Blood.” In speaking further about his character’s circumstances to Entertainment Weekly, the actor had the following to say:

“He is still a prisoner of the Freys and then the Freys try and use him as bait to reclaim Riverrun, which is his ancestral home. And then Jamie Lannister gets involved. [Edmure] becomes a pawn in a large political fight. He ends up having to make a very difficult decision over whether to betray his family.”

Hopefully, we’re going to see more of Edmure at some point this season, mostly because there is much more story that could be fleshed-out here. This is especially true in Riverrun, which could become a little bit more of a player thanks to Jaime Lannister getting a new mission (if he opts to take it).
