‘Game of Thrones’ season 6, episode 2 reaction: Was Kit Harington reveal worth the wait?
“Game of Thrones” really wanted to take its time in getting to its big reveal Sunday night; specifically, they made you wait a good ten or so months for something almost everyone assumed would be happening.
Of course, there are some big-time SPOILERS ahead. You’ve been warned.
In the end, tonight made it official that Jon Snow is in fact alive, and it was none other than Melisandre who raised him from the dead. Not everyone knows about this just yet, but they probably will at some point in the future. It’s a game-changer for the show, but was it really worth it for the fans? We’d argue no, since it proved more to be a frustrating waiting game that didn’t need to be structured in such a way.
Basically, having season 5 end on a cliffhanger caused a ton of problems for the series. It increased the paparazzi presence, and basically gave Kit Harington no peace at all over the summer and the fall. Yet, spies were also still able to determine that he was in Belfast, where the show happens to be filmed. In the internet age, it’s impossible to really keep this a secret, no matter how many times you utter “Jon Snow is dead.”
If the show really meant to make people believe Jon was gone, they wouldn’t have made it a finale cliffhanger. Consider the Red Wedding or the death of Ned Stark, where there was time to digest both of them. Jon’s end made for a great moment at the time, but we could see to the other side once we started to get over being emotional the night of the finale.
In the end, it’s awesome to have Jon back — we just wish it would’ve happened without all the pomp and circumstance. It’s the least-shocking shocker of the year so far.

The whole point of the cliffhanger was so that George could finish the next book. I would also argue with you that there is a logical progression of these things, and the way the show did it made logical sense. They just didn’t have enough time to tell that story.

This article is so presumptuous. Nobody “knew” this was going to happen. He could very well have stayed dead.
Just as I hide behind anonymity as I write this comment, and not have to deal with the consequences of your reaction, you hide behind time as you write your post, knowing that you cannot be wrong, as it has already happened.
You would never have so boldly written that you knew things would turn out this way before it premiered.

I feel like personally on the site, we’ve been fairly consistent with this from the time in which the cliffhanger began. I concede that the way in which it happened tonight was slightly different than expected. On the flip side, I would be pouring on praise if he was actually dead, given that it was such a turnaround from my own expectation.
