‘Survivor: Kaoh Rong’ episode 9 video: Scot and Jason’s actions spark some anger

Kyle Jason -

Is it ever a good move to go and hide the machete at a “Survivor” camp? The one person who is well-known for this sort of “psychological warfare” (as it is described in the sneak peek below) is Russell Hantz, and he doesn’t have a single win in three appearances on the show. You gotta make people like you if you’re out there in the game, and if they know you are intentionally sabotaging their ability to survive, they’re not going to give you that vote!

This is why we’re in many ways baffled by Jason and Scot’s decision to go and hide the machete after Nick was blindsided. Sure, we understand being bitter that you were left out of the vote, but do you really want to make yourself a bigger target? Jason may have an idol, but we’re not sure if the path to the super-idol still exists with Tai voting against him at the last tribal council. Either way, that idol has an expiration date and can only be played once. Sooner or later, you have to come up with another plan, and all this stunt seems to have done is make Debbie all the more interested in voting him out as soon as possible. There aren’t exactly a lot of suspects as to who hid it, even if Jason and Scot make it discreet.

If there is one life preserver Jason may have judging from this preview, it’s Julia, who seems to actually like being around the Brawn guys more than the Brains. That doesn’t per se mean that she is aligned with them, but it’s cause for concern and Aubry gives a pretty awesome confessional about what happens sometimes to people in the middle. You know where Scot and Jason are, and if you have the numbers, even if you get rid of Julia, there’s a compelling argument to just take her out now and make life easier and clearer for yourself down the road.

Let’s just hope that all of this ends up leading to an interesting episode, and not one with a predictable boot. We keep waiting for the other shoe to drop on this season and it just hasn’t come.
