‘Supergirl’: More optimism for season 2 renewal

Manhunter -Probably one of the biggest surprises related to “Supergirl” at the moment is something that is not actually apparent on the show itself: The fact that for one reason or another, the series has not been renewed as of yet for a second season.

Yet, isn’t there a reason for tremendous hope? We do like to think so. Speaking to Digital Spy in a new interview, star David Harewood (Hank Henshaw / Martian Manhunter) made it clear that he is feeling rather optimistic thanks to some hints floating around here and there:

“I’ve heard lots of rumblings – there are no guarantees … But CBS has made some very positive noises. All I know is that we’ve just had one of our biggest audiences of the year so far with the Flash crossover so it’s all looking positive.”

We ultimately feel like “Supergirl” is in a rather tricky position. While its ratings are not terrible, they’re also not spectacular. We assume that the action sequences come with a hefty price tag, and we’re not sure how realistic a move to The CW is given that they recently renewed pretty much their entire lineup. Still, we think that a renewal is almost close to a slam-dunk when you consider that this show brings CBS an audience that it’s not used to having, and there is obviously great potential that comes with crossing over to other parts of the DC Comics – TV universe.

Also, getting a second season would help the show to correct some of its biggest season 1 flaws, including a tone that was at times a little too cheesy and a feel that was a little too much like a romantic comedy at times. There were moments when season 1 was awesome, and with that there is hope for the future.
