‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3: Boss on key Arianne Palicki – Nick Blood decision

Bobbi -We anticipated that this week’s episode of Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” was going to be a fairly big one. However, we did not imagine in a million years that it was going to lead in some way to Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter leaving the show. Sure, we imagined that it would happen eventually, but why so soon? We still have almost of the season still to air, and it feels like in theory you could still air some more stories featuring these characters.

However, executive producer Jeff Bell made it clear to Entertainment Weekly that there were specific reasons as to why the show chose to end the story for Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood now, as opposed to a few weeks down the line:

“They had to go off and shoot a pilot [for ‘Marvel’s Most Wanted’]. That takes a long period of time. We wanted to manufacture a meaningful exit. They had to leave physically to go do a pilot — for them to be on the show, then be absent for a few episodes and then come back to leave felt disingenuous. It just happened naturally based on the schedule for shooting the pilot. We shot it earlier this year, and that really forced us to get them in and get them out at a certain time so they could turn around and do it.”

Bell also stated that they wanted to draw a clear distinction between “SHIELD” and the upcoming pilot, given that they are going to be very different shows. He did not rule out the possibility of spin-offs down the road, but we figure that for the time being, we really need to take this just one episode at a time. There’s no guarantee that “Most Wanted” will be picked up, given that the ratings for “SHIELD” have been far from stellar these days.
