‘American Idol 15’ spoilers: What Olivia Rox, Dalton Rapattoni, Avalon Young, top 8 are singing
Thursday night, “American Idol” will feature ten hopefuls learning whether or not they get to continue their time in the competition, and it’s also going to be a chance for singers to apparently perform whatever they want. Based on the new song choices released per TVLine, there’s really no rhyme or reason at all to many of the choices.
Check out some of the song selections below, along with our quick take on all of them!
Avalon Young, “Earned It” by The Weeknd – Avalon continues to earn praise for us from choosing some of the more interesting songs this season.
MacKenzie Bourg, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston – Why in the world is he doing this song? We’re so tired of hearing Whitney songs covered on this show, even if he is likely going to infuse this song with so much passion and creativity.
La’Porsha Renae, “Halo” by Beyonce – We’re of two minds here. One part of our head assures us that she will completely kill this. However, the other part of us is frustrated that she is doing a song that has been done to death.
Sonika Vaid, “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson – One week removed from getting to see Kelly Clarkson on the show, we’re now going to be getting to hear a cover of one of her signature songs.
Gianna Isabella, “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys – Ugh. Extremely overdone song. Nothing to see here.
Lee Jean, “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon – We’re not sure either Lee or Gianna will get a chance to sing on the night, but if they do, this is a decent choice.
Dalton Rapattoni, “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons – We’ve given Dalton a lot of praise over time for turning songs around on their head; to date, this actually may be the most straightforward choice that he’s done.
Tristan McIntosh, “Go Rest High on That Mountain” by Vince Gill – It suits her genre, and she could do some nice things with it. We have no issue with the choice.
Trent Harmon, “When a Man Loves a Woman” by Percy Sledge – Now, we’re back to talking about overdone songs. It’s a good song, but what can Trent do that we haven’t already heard?
Olivia Rox, “Trouble” by Pink – This is smart, given that it’s a very good song that we have not heard for a while on the show.
