‘The Amazing Race 28’ video: Latest preview all about going ‘offline’

Race -The 28th season of “The Amazing Race” is going to be premiering on CBS Friday night, and we’re starting to get a better sense as of now about how the network is trying to advertise the series.

Yes, we know that the whole “internet stars” casting theme may be off-putting to some, but we like the premise of taking these people so used to instant communication, forcing them offline, and trying to figure out if they can still survive. It’s almost a fish-out-of-water experience for them, and you can also argue that at least many of these people already know how to be entertaining on-camera. Hopefully, this is going to keep there from being some major duds when it comes to casting.

Also, let’s talk another motivation to do this season in such a way: Viewers. If casting these people does somehow help ratings for the show go up compared to previous cycles, we’re all for the twist. We ultimately want more of the Race no matter what, and it’s not lost on us that the ratings in recent years have not been great. There’s always been a devoted following, but the show’s a shell of its former shelf commercially and it also airs at a timeslot that is considered by many to be one of the most difficult ones of the week.

We’re going to be following this season in the same way we always do with other “Amazing Race” installments, and there are two stories in particular we are going to follow: Whether or not these teams produce better entertainment than average, and also if they get better ratings.
