‘Arrow’ season 4, episode 12 reaction: The implications of the Felicity – Calculator reveal

Arrow -Now that Wednesday night’s new episode of “Arrow” has finally aired, we are here to say that the rumors are indeed true: We’ve now officially met the father of Felicity Smoak. The Calculator is a villain with a very unique skill set, and he brought Roy Harper into the world of Star City before ultimately revealing the truth to Emily Bett Rickards’ character about who he really is.

As you would imagine, this is going to lead to a variety of different reactions from different members of the Smoak family. Donna will obviously have a clear reaction to it, but what you see from her daughter will not necessarily line up with that. Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Wendy Mericle has the following to say:

“Well, Donna will be very clear — she knows who he is and what he’s capable of, and she wants nothing to do with him. But Felicity, we really wanted to play the real of someone who is in her twenties and really has not known their father, and what kind of emotions would that bring up for somebody in her position. I think she’s really conflicted. She wants to believe that her father loves her and that he has a vested interest in who she is and knowing her and having a relationship with her, and she feels very torn about that — even though she knows right off that bat, at the top of [next episode], who he really is.”

Hopefully we’re going to get a chance to see this relationship develop over time, and this isn’t going to be someone who just turns up for a single episode and that’s it. Unfortunately, we imagine that we’re going to have to take a wait-and-see approach on this one.
