‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: ‘Ruby Slippers’ and all the possibilities

If “Once Upon a Time” knows how to do one thing really well during their hiatus weeks, it is drive people completely up the wall with episode-title speculation. We have no better example of this very thing at the moment than what we’ve got from executive producer Adam Horowitz.

If you look below, you can see via Twitter that the upcoming 18th episode of the show is entitled “Ruby Slippers.” We imagine that this is going to be a particularly-intriguing episode for a number of different reasons.

First and foremost, what is the title a reference to? The obvious answer to that is the return of Dorothy and of Oz. We know that the former character was recast recently, and we’re going to see a side to her that we did not see completely the first time. However, at the same time there’s also a character on the ABC series named Ruby, and you have to wonder what sort of connections she could have to all of it. Meghan Ory is returning in some capacity moving forward, and is one of the characters rumored to be the love interest for Jamie Chung’s Mulan. It’s been confirmed that there will be an LGBT relationship explored at some point this season.

Unfortunately, it could be some time before we have our answers here, given that we’re only halfway through season 5 at the moment, and episode 12 is not premiering on ABC until March 6. We’ll probably have more title scoop before then.
