‘Doctor Who’ in danger of leaving Netflix in America — again

Doctor Who -Stop us when this sounds familiar: American subscribers to Netflix are in danger of losing the “Doctor Who” library. This is something that has happened in the past, and this time around in particular we are only a few days away from the episodes featuring David Tennant, Matt Smith, and more disappearing from the streaming service. (In the United Kingdom there is no need to fear; the episodes are staying put.)

In response to Doctor Who Online on Twitter, the service confirmed via their customer service account that it is a licensing issue that is going to cause the content to expire, but they claim that they are “always happy to work on getting it” back in the future.

Do we think that the service could really lose The Doctor this time around? Certainly, but that doesn’t mean he would be gone for a long stretch of time. Whovians are an outspoken bunch, and this is one of those series that is really prime binge-watching material. The unfortunate thing is that, other than exclusively-licensed content, we have seen many British products disappear from the service over time. Some of this is just natural progression for the company, given that they have a rather robust library of original content at the moment. We just hope, for the sake of “Doctor Who” fans everywhere, that they find a way to get the show back.

Of course, we’ll be back with some further information on this subject once it is known.

For now, head over here to see some of the latest stories regarding the show, and also the impending exit of showrunner Steven Moffat at the end of season 10.
