‘Girl Meets World’ season 2: Rowan Blanchard hopes for more representation
Could “Girl Meets World” feature a wider array of characters on the show moving forward? It’s something that its own star in Rowan Blanchard would certainly be open to, judging from a response that she gave on Twitter to someone lobbying for her character Riley to be bisexual.
Would this be something that the series would consider? It’s hard to really know what the writers have in mind for the future, though to date they have written the Riley character as being interested in boys (specifically, Lucas). Granted, high school is still to come for her, and this is a time when you try to discover more of who you really are rather than giving into more of the norms of society. Anything is possible in theory, but if Riley continues her current trajectory it would be nice to see more LGBT representation on the show in some way. Shows meant for younger audiences are some that are the most lacking when it comes to this representation as of yet, but with a changing society and further openness to have young role models for all people, this is changing.
When it comes to season 3, all we know at the moment is that scripts are being written, and new episodes will likely start airing alter this year. (Season 2 is still in the process of airing at the moment.)
Now, let’s turn back to Blanchard. After being questioned by some over her use of the word “queer,” she went on in a separate post to explain that she identifies as such, saying that she is open to dating or liking any gender in the future. She has been rather prolific in speaking out about social issues, and we would love to see more of that reflected on the show, as well.
