‘The Flash’ season 2 spoilers: Grant Gustin talks about those ‘evil Barry’ rumors

Zoom -

Is Barry Allen both The Flash and Zoom? This is certainly a theory that has been floated out there by many fans of “The Flash,” but for those of you who are out there still wondering, star Grant Gustin has an answer for you: It’s unlikely that he is playing both the hero and the big bad as his Earth-2 doppelganger.

In speaking about the subject of Zoom to IGN, Gustin confirmed that he does actually now know who is behind that mask, which is good news to us since it probably means that we’ll get to know the identity of our main adversary at least at some point in the not-too-distant future:

“I don’t think it’s going to be Evil Barry. But I was pitching that idea really early on, like, ‘How fun would that be, it’d be so cool!’ I just selfishly wanted to play the villain. I didn’t even know who it was until last night, actually. I hadn’t asked. I asked way more questions last year. Jesse [L. Martin] likes to know as little as possible and I’m kind of taking that route this year, so I’m surprised when I see the scripts and surprised when I do it. I hadn’t asked who Zoom was. I didn’t want to know, but [Greg] Berlanti called me last night to catch up and talk about the episodes and that came up and he broke down that whole story for me and how it’s going to evolve and what’s going to happen. So I do know now.”

Even if Barry is not Zoom, there are certainly many other possibilities for who the villain can be that are not people we have met on Earth-2. Based on what we’ve heard the people you can rule out are Harrison Wells and Ronnie Raymond, along with the majority of the female cast. (Zoom has the physiology of a man.) We’ve heard the Henry Allen theories plenty on several occasions now, but you could also wonder about an Earth-2 Wally West, Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett is already done with “Quantico”), or even someone we haven’t met yet.
