‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ season 6, episode 8 review: Kathryn Edwards’ arrival leads to commotion
We haven’t been the biggest fans so far of this season of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” as it has been missing that fire that the other seasons have had. Is the show suffering from the loss of the drama that Brandi Glanville and Kim Richards brought to the table? Perhaps a little bit, but really what we enjoy about this show is the glamour of it all, and there hasn’t been enough of that this season outside of Lisa Vanderpump buying a small horse for Ken’s birthday. We had hoped that the new housewife, Erika Girardi was going to bring the drama, but so far her contribution to the show has been selling her Erika Jayne brand and not much more.
So how did the show recover from the bumpy past few episodes? Well, how about drudging up headlines from decades ago? We met Kathryn Edwards on Tuesday night’s new episode, and for whatever reason we spent at least five minutes talking about how she was at one point married to Marcus Allen, and how in turn there were rumors around the two at the time in which Nicole Brown Simpson was killed.
All the women were gathered (back in Los Angeles) for a Lisa Vanderpump event, which allowed her to meet almost everyone on the show and then some … only to get asked about Faye Resnick, who was also an important person at the time of Nicole Brown’s death. Anyone who watched the OJ Simpson trial knows all of these names … but this was DECADES ago! Why not watch “American Crime Story” if you want to re-hash this? As Kyle Richards said, this was “creepy” for her … and it was definitely creepy for us to hear about something so far in the past.
When the wives weren’t busy gossiping all about this, they had another primary subject of conversation: Kim Richards, who was also not really present to defend herself. Lisa Rinna has taken it upon herself to be lead gossiper, and we once again don’t really understand why. So much of this season seems to be women sitting around talking, and not a lot of people actually doing things in a proactive manner. While it’s nice to have a new Housewife, much of this episode is all about grasping at straws. Episode grade: C.
