‘Supernatural’ season 12: CW hopeful about renewal for Jared Padalecki – Jensen Ackles series

Supernatural -

Love “Supernatural“? The CW is right there with you, and thanks to that there is a lot of hope that you are going to see the show again for a twelfth season this fall.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour today, network programming head Mark Pedowitz cited (per TVLine) ratings and the overall happiness of stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as reasons why the show could be come back:

“Both Jared and Jensen are having a blast … As long as they’re having a blast, it’s a great thing. The show is performing better than it did last year, better than you could ever hope. I’m very hopeful that we’ll see it again.”

Just out of curiosity we checked up on Pedowitz’s “performing better” claims, and it’s not entirely accurate when you look at live+same day ratings. This year the show is down just under 9% versus season 10 in the 18-49 demographic, and just over 10% in total viewers. Granted, maybe there is enough difference to make up for this and then some when DVR ratings, internet streams, and On-Demand viewings are calculated. We just have a single measure.

We do personally think that you will see the show again. While it may not be a sure thing just yet that it will make it to season 12, why would The CW cancel it? We feel like if they ever decide to end it they will give it a proper “final season” so that fans can savor what is arguably the most successful scripted series in CW history. If nothing else, it is the longest-running show of its genre.
