‘The Good Wife’ season 7 winter finale: Boss reacts to key Eli – Alicia scene
Given that this past episode of “The Good Wife” was the show’s winter finale, you had to expect some big moves to take place. With that being said, who anticipated that we were going to see Eli dip all the way back to the early seasons of the show to reveal that he deleted Will’s confession of love to Alicia? He may have fundamentally changed her entire life with this one move, which was done to not upset the metaphorical apple cart.
As for why this particular moment was best for Eli to confess this truth to Alicia, executive producers Robert and Michelle King told Entertainment Weekly that much of it circumstantial, and revolves around not only what happened to him with Courtney, but the realization that he may be taking potential new love interest Jason Crouse away from her:
“Eli admits it now for a few reasons: He’s particularly vulnerable because of his pain over Courtney (Vanessa Williams) leaving, and the reason for her leaving … work over love. But he also feels guilty about his involvement in manipulating Alicia out of happiness again by maneuvering Jason (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) away from her. He realizes he’s doing the same thing now that he did back at the end of the first season. He cares for Alicia now, and wants her to be happy. He confesses in order to relieve his guilt, but also to push Alicia to not give up her chance at happiness.”
For those who are wondering, Jason’s not going anywhere despite the events of the winter finale; Morgan will be appearing in almost every remaining episode with one exception. While the actor will be joining “The Walking Dead” in season 7 as a regular, that doesn’t preclude him from doing more work here if “The Good Wife” is renewed.
