‘Dexter’ revival not happening at Showtime … at least for now

WhatIt looks like the kill room is not going to be constructed anytime soon. “Dexter,” alas, is still not plotting a revival at Showtime.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, the show’s official Twitter page started a minor frenzy with the tweet below, which led to many outlets proclaiming that the show may be coming back. (Strangely, many others also linked to an old piece of ours about why it should come back as some sort of evidence.) Our argument has been that this is a once-fantastic show that deserves better than its final two seasons, in particular the series finale that proved itself to be a disaster and next to “How I Met Your Mother,” one of the most loathed in recent memory. Another season is a shot at redemption, and to give one of Showtime’s landmark series a real shot to change the narrative.

Unfortunately, The Hollywood Reporter claims via network sources that at the moment, there are no revival plans … but we still believe that this is something that could change in the future. The show has a popular enough audience around the world to justify the cost, even if Michael C. Hall does not come cheap. We imagine that the real sticking point would simply be finding the right story to make it happen. Also, the fact that Deb is no longer alive. Without her, you are losing a significant part of what made the show so great.

We’re going to continue to keep watch on all “Dexter”-related rumors; the closest thing that we have had to a reunion recently was Desmond Harrington working alongside Jennifer Carpenter for an episode of “Limitless” over on CBS.
